Learn to make Black chana stir fry- It is a simple, healthy, filling quick power snack prepared with black chickpeas and a few basic ingredients that can be served at any time of the day.
Black chickpeas are also known as Garbanzo beans or Kala chana. They belong to the legume family and are high in protein. These are low in fat, rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Helps in weight loss and lowers the blood cholesterol.
I have grown up eating this as an evening snack. The best part is it can be prepared in just minutes if soaked chana are readily available. Even you can prepare it in advance and keep it in the refrigerator. It can also be prepared with sprouted chana.

STEP BY STEP BLACK CHANA STIR FRY RECIPE INSTRUCTIONS WITH PHOTOS:
- Wash and soak black chana in water overnight.
2. Drain and rinse it under running water and set aside.
3. Heat oil in a pan. Add split dry red chili, cumin seeds (jeera) and let it splutter.
4. Add few curry leaves and crushed garlic pods and cook for 2-3 minutes.
5. Add black chana, mix well and cook for 5 minutes.
6. Then, add salt, mix well and cook for 8-10 minutes.
7. Garnish with fried curry leaves and serve.

Black chana stir fry
Ingredients
- 2 cups Black chana Kala chana/ Senagalu
- 4 cups Water
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 3 Dried red chili
- 1 1/2 tbsp Cumin seeds Jeera
- Few Curry leaves
- 5-6 Garlic pods Crushed
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Wash and soak black chana in water overnight.

- Add few curry leaves and crushed garlic pods and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add black chana, mix well and cook for 5 minutes.
- Then, add salt, mix well and cook for 8-10 minutes.
- Garnish with fried curry leaves and serve.
Notes
- Soaking chana overnight helps reduce the cooking time.
- If you can’t soak it overnight, soak it atleast for 4 hours and then pressure cook for 2 whistles.
