Banana Fry Recipe – Learn how to make raw banana/ Aratikaya fry with step by step photos.
Banana is a good source of calcium, iron and Vitamins. It is low in sodium and calories. This recipe gives you a good combination of health and taste.
It is a popular South Indian stir-fry recipe, and perhaps one of the underrated dry curry recipe. This is a simple recipe with commonly available ingredients. You can add garam masala to this recipe but we prefer it spiced with only red chilis.
Some tips to follow while cooking raw banana:
- The raw banana is cut into any desired shape. In this recipe I have chopped it to small cubes but can also be sliced vertically or rings as per your preference. Slice them thin or into small pieces, cooked easily and quickly.
- Use only raw plantains which are dark green in color. Refrain from using the plantains which are light green or light yellow in color.
A no onion no garlic recipe. Serve with steamed rice or dal rice.
Raw banana or plantain is used for making fry, bajji, chips, curry, stir fry.
STEP BY STEP BANANA FRY RECIPE INSTRUCTIONS WITH PHOTOS:
- Peel raw banana and chop it into small cubes.
- Place the chopped banana pieces in water so that they don’t change color.
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Add mustard seeds, let them splutter and then add split red chili, dals, curry leaves.
5. Now add chopped raw banana pieces and cook for 5-6 minutes.
6. Add salt, turmeric, chili powder and cook for 5-10 minutes.
7. Garnish with fried curry leaves and serve with steamed rice, dal rice or curd rice.

Banana Fry
Ingredients
- 2 Cups Raw banana Chopped into cubes
- 1 tbsp Salt
- 1/4 tbsp Turmeric
- 1 tbsp Chili powder
- 2 tbsp Oil
- Few Curry leaves
- 2 whole Red chilis Split
- 1/4 tbsp Mustard seeds
- 1/2 tbsp Urad dal
- 1/2 tbsp Chana dal
